About me
My name is Przemysław Jagodzik, and since 2023 I have been working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Assistant Professor – Post-doc) at the Department of Molecular and Clinical Genetics at the Institute of Human Genetics, Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań. My research focuses on primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD), a specific form of ciliopathy resulting from defects in motile cilia. As part of my work, I investigate the OFD1 interactome to identify which OFD1‑interacting proteins contribute specifically to PCD. To address these research questions, I primarily use CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, co‑immunoprecipitation (Co‑IP), and protein analysis by Western blotting.
Since August 2025, I have also been leading a research project funded by the National Science Centre (MINIATURA 2025/09/X/NZ4/00289). The project investigates the relationship between motile cilia dysfunction and nitric oxide levels, as well as the functioning of the NO–sGC–cGMP–PKG signaling pathway in the context of PCD.
I have a lot of experience in proteomics, which I started gaining since 2009, when I started my master's degree. As part of my master's thesis, I was looking for potential MAPKKK18 kinase protein partners (Arabidopsis thaliana), which are elements of the signaling cascade with its participation. In 2013, I started doctoral studies at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań, and the subject of my research was the chaperone activity of the chloroplast protein AtDeg2. I defended my PhD thesis on September 16, 2019. During the preparation of my doctoral dissertation, I mastered many techniques of molecular biology (such as Western blot or diagonal electrophoresis). I was a pioneer in implementing many genetic engineering techniques in my Department, such as: DNA cloning, overexpression and purification of recombinant proteins, plant transformation or protoplast transfection. In addition, I learned the basics of bioinformatics and statistics. The result of my doctoral dissertation is 5 articles published in journals from the Philadelphia list and a series of communications presented at national and international conferences.
In the last years of my PhD I took up a full-time job at the Karol Marcinkowski University of Medical Science in Poznań as a senior scientific and technical worker. During this short period (three months), I learned the basics of cell culture, fluorescence microscopy analysis and ELISA. Then I started working at BioInfoBank Institute in Poznań as investigator in the project aimed in creation of the innovative anticancer pharmaceuticals characterized by high effectivity and selectivity with accompanying minimalized side effects of the foreseen therapy and in the procect aimed in creation an innovative system for DNA removal from biological samples (POIR.01.01.01-00-0975/16). During both projects I learned many new approaches related to cloning, overexpression, purification and biochemical analysis of recombinant proteins.
After my PhD I started working as an Assistant Professor (Post-doc position) at the Department of Plant Ecophysiology of the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań. The main area of my research was the analysis of the role of nitric oxide in the pathogen-plant interaction by the example of potato blight disease caused by Phytoftora infestans (Mont.) De Bary. I analyzed post-translational modifications of proteins such as histone acetylation or methylation and protein nitration or S-nitroslation, and the main techniques I used were Western blot Co-IP and biotin switch method.
To sum up, my experience in the field of proteomics is very broad and covers the area of protein-protein interaction, enzymatic activity and post-translational modifications. As part of the research, both during the preparation of my doctoral dissertation and professional work, I have gained the following skills and professional experience in the field of:
